Emmy, consider this...
Although I know no one out there in cosmic universe really reads my blog I still owe it to myself an avid TV fan and critic to give my 2 cents. So here goes nothing.
Emmy nods are coming up and with that usually comes the same ole people nominated (Desperate Housewives Cast~ ack) and the same ole people forgotten about (Lauren Graham~ Gilmore Girls). I'm still hoping for the Academy to realize what idiots they were for not nominating Sarah Michelle Gellar (yes AKA Buffy Summers from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", the TV show inspired by the movie which yes, had Luke Perry from Beverly Hills 90210) and giving her an Emmy. She deserved it for superb acting in the amazing episode The Body, where Buffy comes home to find her mother dead on the couch. Netflix it Season 5, Episode 16, you'll thank me later. Or if the head honchos missed that one they could also check out The Gift, (Season 5, Episode 22) where Buffy has to save the world...again (its a long story). You might as well just Netflix Season 1, 2 & 5. If not because of my recommendations than at least to see the British guy from those continuing Folgers Coffee commercials playing Buffy's watcher Giles.
Moving on...quickly I promise.
So here's my take on who the Academy should finally recognize with a damn nomination!
Drama Series

Drama Series
- Lost (ABC) - Do you even need to ask?
- Grey's Anatomy (ABC)- I've got 7 words for you: Post Super Bowl Episode & Season Finale
- 24 (FOX) - It all happens in ONE day, one day. Makes your bad days seem a lot better don't they?
- Rescue Me (FX) - The best new show on basic cable. Not only does it combine humor, drama and action it showed us the new reality firefighters had to survive and work in post 9-11 in NYC.
- Prison Break (FOX) - Intense, character driven, suspense, dark and it keeps you guessing. You can't help but wonder where they're gonna go next.
Hold the comments until the end about how I didn't put The Sopranos up there.
Comedy Series
- Arrested Development (Fox) - I gotta give them one last shot...to throw it back in Fox's face on how stupid they were for canceling a great show.
- Scrubs (NBC) - They've had a long time coming. Despite being a mid-season for next year, this show has always been witty, odd, fresh and hilarious.
- The Office (NBC) - If not for the priceless holiday party episode or the booze cruise episode alone, it deserves a nod. Hilarious and painful to watch The Office mocks every aspect of the workplace all while teasing us with the Pam/Jim (are they or aren't they) storyline.
- Entourage (HBO)- Giving us a glimpse into the Hollywood life, this series captures and comments everything we wanted and didn't want to know about the celeb world.
- How I've Met Your Mother (CBS) - If not for Neil Patrick Harris alone than at least for the original concept and the continuous guessing each week on who is Ted's wife going to be.
Lead Actor, Drama
- Hugh Laurie -House (Fox) ~ Do I even need to explain why? He's remarkable as the doctor you love to hate but would want on your side if anything out of this world were to happen to you.
- Keifer Sutherland - 24 (Fox) ~ Would you be able to look as cool, calm and collected if you had to save the world, stay hidden from the police, get out of a hostage situation, find a missile all in the first couple hours of your work day?
- James Gandolfini - The Sopranos (HBO) ~ Not only did he get shot by his Uncle and had to lay in a coma, but those dream sequences? Finally we got to see the softer side of Tony the mobster.
- Denis Leary - Rescue Me (FX) ~ Leary in this role makes you forget his stand up comedian days. He's sexy, funny, dangerous and dark. And despite all the drama he's caused, you can't help but feel bad for the guy. He's been through a lot.
- Chris Meloni - Law & Order: SVU (NBC) ~ In this last season we saw Det. Stabler at his best and worst. "Demons" (Season 7, Episode 1) When he went undercover as a rapist and attended group therapy sessions in order to keep an eye on a recently released rapist, Meloni was so convincing it gave me chills.
Lead Actress, Drama
- Kristen Bell - Veronica Mars (UPN) ~ Bell is a terrific actress as the 21st version of Nancy Drew. She delivers comebacks with just the right of sting but also tears without having to cue the violins. If you don't believe me check it out for yourself, I recommend I Am God (Season 2, Episode 18) or Not Pictured (Season 2, Episode 22). And if that doesn't work, go all out and do a Season 1 marathon.
- Edie Falco - The Sopranos (HBO) ~ This was Falco's season. You could see the agony, pain and guilt on her face as she stayed by Tony's side and tried to keep her family together.
- Ellen Pompeo - Grey's Anatomy (ABC) ~ It was a rough year for Meredith and despite my annoyance with her at times, Pompeo shined this season. Torn between independence and McDreamy, Pompeo gave us glimpse of what was beneath Meredith's hard wall exterior - a broken heart.
- Geena Davis - Commander in Chief (ABC) ~ This might be the closest we get to a Female President.
- Krya Sedgwick - The Closer (TNT) ~ She's tough, southern...and when nervous she eats. Its refreshing to see a female actually eat on primetime.
Lead Actor, Comedy
- Steve Carell ~ The Office (NBC) ~Dare I need to say more? He's fantastic as the boss who tries way to hard.
- Donald Faison ~ Scrubs (NBC) ~ JD's not the only one who gets the laughs.
- Jason Bateman ~ Arrested Development (Fox) ~ He's the only sane one of this chaotic dysfunctional family. Plus it'll make you forget about his Teen Wolf Two days.
- John C. McGinley~ Scrubs (NBC) ~ The only doctor I know who could battle House and possibly win.
- Kevin James ~ King of Queens (CBS) ~ If not for the stripper pole episode alone he deserves a nod.
Lead Actress, Comedy
- Lauren Graham ~ Gilmore Girls (WB or CW) - The expression on her face in the last 2 minutes of Partings Season 6's season finale said it ALL.
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus ~ The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS) - In your face Seinfeld curse!
- Jessica Walter ~ Arrested Development (Fox)
- Kelly Bishop ~ Gilmore Girls (WB or CW) ~ Its the battle of the Grannies.
- Sarah Chalke ~ Scrubs (NBC) - Watching her you forget that she played Becky on Roseanne.
Supporting Actor, Drama
- T.R Knight ~ Grey's Anatomy (ABC) - George went from a shy, timid boy into an outspoken, confident man right before our eyes.
- Isaiah Washington ~ Grey's Anatomy (ABC) - He gives us women hope that its not always us who want to take the relationship to the next level.
- Gregory Itzin ~ 24 (Fox) - He took anxiety and indecisiveness to a whole other level.
- Josh Holloway ~ Lost (ABC) ~ He plays bad sooo good. Its those dimples and southern charm.
- Daniel Sujanta ~ Rescue Me (FX) ~ Frankie became lost when he got injured in a fire, thanks to his best friend Tommy. Addiction to pain killers, suddenly raising a daughter Frankie was in a dark black hole and Sujanta played him perfectly.
Supporting Actress, Drama
- Jean Smart ~ 24 (Fox) ~ No one will remember her for her role in Designing Women anymore, but rather for her role as the tough ass First Lady.
- Kate Walsh ~ Grey's Anatomy (ABC) ~ She went from the woman we all hated to the woman we felt bad for hating by the end.
- Chandra Wilson ~ Grey's Anatomy (ABC) ~ We saw the vulnerable side of the tough cookie while she struggled to deliver her baby as her husband's life laid in the hands of McDreamy.
- Sandra Oh ~ Grey's Anatomy (ABC) ~ After Season 1 she only got better.
- Andrea Roth ~ Rescue Me (FX) ~ Fleeing away with her children, addiction to depressants and then the death of her baby boy. Roth is phenomenal as Tommy's ex-wife and she's only getting better in Season 3.
Supporting Actor, Comedy
- Rainn Wilson~ The Office (NBC) ~ You all knew someone like this at work.
- Will Arnett ~ Arrested Development (Fox)~ Takes the term black sheep to another level.
- Jeremy Piven ~ Entourage (HBO) ~ 4 words: Hug it out bitch!
- Kevin Dillon ~ Entourage (HBO) ~ If not because he really is the brother to Matt Dillion
- Neil Patrick Harris ~ How I Met Your Mother ( CBS) ~ Because suddenly you're saying Doogie Who?
Supporting Actress, Comedy
- Alyson Hannigan ~ How I Met Your Mother (CBS) ~ Makes you almost wish they got rid of dark Willow a lot earlier on Buffy.
- Jenna Fischer ~ The Office (NBC) ~ Without her there would be no Pam & Jim storyline.
- Jaime Pressely ~ My Name is Early (NBC) ~ She makes you forget that she started out as a model.
- Portia De Rossi ~ Arrested Development (Fox) ~ I want someone, anyone to win from AD. It could be the actor who plays George Michael and I'd be happy.
- Melissa McCarthy ~ Gilmore Girls (WB or CW) ~ Because who would Lorelai be without Sookie?

Excellent choices. Of the shows I watch, I couldn't agree more. Of course Kristin Bell. Of course. And props for chosing Ellen Pompeo--I'm a fan of both the actress (check out Moonlight Mile) AND the character. Many rabid GA fans really say nasty things about Meredith, and sometimes I feel like The Cheese Stands Alone when I say I like her. She isn't necessarily like-ABLE, but I like her.
To add to the list...I know that the West Wing went seriously downhill since Sorkin left, but there's something about the final season that seems to deserve a nod, and the final 6 or so episodes of the series really did pull up from the nosedive. Perhaps it doesn't deserve a nomination in the best drama catagory, but certainly many of the actors are worth a look.
I think that Bradley Whitford ALWAYS deserves an Emmy, as does John Spencer (and not just for sentimental reasons). I think that Janel Maloney as Donna REALLY deserves a nomination. Not only does she play the character effortlessly with a kind of engaged ease rarely seen in slightly supporting roles in ensemble casts, but also her character has undergone some bizarre and John Wells-inflicted weirdness, and Janel has made these transitions work in ways that defy logic.
So give the girl her award.

i like these choices too. who am i most excited about? house of course because he rules and the final episode of the season was intense. right on with all the GG picks--i think it's lorelai's year.
